Pretty and groomed

Our two corgi girls needed to be groomed. We went to the dog park on Sunday as sort of a last hurrah, and THIS happened:
Yes, it was bad. REALLY bad. This photo was taken before Roxy discovered she could dip her head in the mud. Maddie's love of mud is just as bad. I'm debating which corgi to nickname "hippo" and which one to nickname "piglet" (since I already call Roxy "my piglet" sometimes, I think Mads might get "hippo."). Bailey's not so bad since he's so tall. I can handle muddy legs.

Fast forward to today and both got groomed (Bailey was SAD but stayed home with a pig ear). Their feet were trimmed, their bellies shaved (you can't tell when they're walking around, but roll them over and there are NO MUD DREADLOCKS!), and a special shampoo to help get the dead-but-caught-in-their-coat fur out. Private bits also trimmed up and Roxy had some of her butt fluff trimmed -- her's gets kinda matty, where as Maddie's stays all pretty, so Maddie kept hers. Roxy's behind looks like a little bear butt right now. SO ADORABLE.

And, the groomer decided to post photos on their facebook. Here's the after shot!

I love our pretty girls! Bailey keeps smelling them. I think he thinks they might have been dipped in biscuits because there's the occasional lick. :)

Sprinkles

It's a cruddy photo, but this is for Bob's family, and they won't mind. Almost 30 and your boy still gets the SPRINKLE cone with then MORE SPRINKLES on top the ice cream.

I earned my "good wife" status by getting them to give him s little cuppie of extra sprinkles for the road (you know, when the first layer of sprinkles is gone). Bob's best interests in mind, of course! :)

Fur blanket

This is what I see before I fall asleep. A one-ear-up corgi beached/kerflopped over me. Sometimes she rolls and I end up with a mouthful of fur.

I love this dog.

Cat in abox

New usage for puzzle lids. Thanks Pads--I didn't need to look at the puzzle picture for reference or anything. As long as you're comfy, old man.

Springtime to-do: Deck TWO

Every year, I find myself sitting down and writing springtime to-dos. Last year, it was the deck.... a project which left me so wiped that I didn't do much else for the rest of the summer.

Lazy BUM, right?

Hm, maybe not. I did also re-side the chicken coop....

So, I suppose some things got done last summer.

This summer, it's more of the same. After comparing the price of pea rock versus deck 2 and the costs being about the same, I get to build deck 2. It's going right next to deck 1, and it will be the same size: 20'x14'.

Whew.

This deck gets a pergola over the top of it. However, since we chose a metal canopy for deck 1:

... I thought that we'd go with a metal pergola for deck 2 (You know, for some consistency and then we wouldn't have to replace rotten wood in a few years). I found this one for not a bad price:

So, I think we're going to go with this one. It looks VERY close to the price of our canopy. If it isn't, we'll paint it (probably spray-paint).

I envision a final deck area looking like this:

I love the greenery!! If I can get the deck done in the next few months, we can plant and maybe even get some green for shade this summer. That'd be pretty splendid.

My Old Man.

The other day, I was driving and Bob was sitting in the passenger seat, reading the local newspaper. Here's our conversation:

Bob: See, now that's just not fair.
Me: What isn't?
Bob: There are so many cool activities at the Campbell Center.

(note: The Campbell Center is a community center, but most often frequented by senior citizens)

Me: Um,... oh? (trying to not grin)
Bob: Yes. Pinochle. Bridge. Mahjong. I have to work, and I'm about 40 years below their average attendee.
Me: (Silence, raising one eyebrow at Bob, trying not to giggle)
Bob: Yes, I know. It's just not fair. I should have been born 65.

Snowshoeing

I had the afternoon off, so bob and I headed for the hills. There, we found 5 1/2 feet of snow awaiting!! We took maddie and bailey - roxy stayed home because she would tire out after only a quarter mile or so in the snow. Note to self (though bob thinks this is ridiculous): make a backpack that will fit roxy!

Roads were clear, there were blue skies, and the temperature was right at freezing, so it was pretty darn nice!!

And, clearly, both dogs loved it!

Maddie, not having webbed toes like bailey, got an ice build up in her toes, so we had to help her out. She's pretty tough though -next time we'll try her wearing booties. Sounds wacky, but they're rei tough dog booties, so they just might work!
